Print finishes:
Embossing and debossing.. Embossed the image/type stands up from the page goo finish as can often detract from printing therefore cheaper! debossed is where it is pushed down the type i love this finish as it makes you interact and feel the type.

 Foil blocking: achieved by putting a foil onto a heated die onto a surface and pushing down which causes the foil to seperate from its backing.

 Die cutting: die cutting is where a steel borders press and push down onto the card and effectively cut it out! designers now use this to real images type underneath for e.g

 Varnishes:

• PEARLESCENT
  Pearlescent varnish, when used, delicately reflects a whole gamut of colours, giving a subtle, luxurious effect
• SPOT UV
  Perhaps the most “designery” of the varnishes available, spot UV can be applied discretely to areas of a printed page so that when turned toward the light, these areas become highlighted

 Spot colours: colours which are specially made cannot be achieved trough the cmyk proccess out of the gammut range most common use for these are if you want flourescent colours or metalic etc.

Printing processes

Screenprint printing process at a commercial level: each board prints the cyan then magenta yellow and black until have a complete image! impressive takes the fun out of it if you ask me!!

not as accurate this is a relief transfer works best on different materials such as eco bags hessian plastic etc

Only ever used on small print runs expensive

To print on T-shirts bags materials that can be strecthed flat.

Pad printing

transfering 2D screen images onto 3D objects such as lighters pens.
